Henry's Breakfast
I don't know what it is about Henry and his breakfast routine.
Of course he sleeps with his elbow pads, soccer shorts and shin guards so LOGICALLY he would need them through breakfast. Pops, his personal-slave-for-the-moment, made him a pancake WITH syrup and a strawberry-banana smoothie.
He would take several sips, then flip through his Little Mermaid book checking out the fish women wearing only shells.
If he expects this at home, I'm going to have to get up an hour earlier or he'll have to just get over it.
I'm going for the latter.

All Four in One
We got to play with our cousins Carter and Graham this afternoon and this was the only photo I could get of the 4 of them.
We could have tried the whole pose-and-smile thing, but I think Kristin and I were too tired.
That's Svea way on the left with Mimi guarding her from running into the ditch, Graham up front hitting the ball against the brick wall, Carter in the back throwing the ball to Henry, and Henry in his shin guards, elbow pads, football t-shirt, holding the tennis raquet.
Word.

Here I come!
I just want to note that Henry is wearing pants.
Many of you know he won't wear them on a regular basis, but he is in this picture.
I also want to note that he has decided that he only wants to wear clothes with stripes. Where did he come from being all uptight and picky and all?
Brian......

Running Down Debbie's Driveway Through the Bubbles
We went to Debbie's house yesterday for a visit.
Debbie has two grown boys, and all their left-over toys, so Henry and Svea were in HEAVEN. In addition to the trampoline, tree house, swings, steep driveway for running, and bubbles, she also had TWO big bags of toys inside. The distraction for me was HEAVEN. She also had fancy cheeses and bowls of dark chocolate for snacking. This is middle-of-the-day snacking. Did I mention HEAVEN?
I'm moving in with her soon.

Birthday Party #2
Our friend Kole turned 3 on Friday of last week.
And he had Capri Suns so Henry thought games + loud music + singing rat + Capri Sun = HEAVEN.
Here's his first, that was immediately followed by a second:

Kole liked to dance on the stage with Chuck, so Henry thought he'd join him. Except every time he almost got up there, he got scared. This halfway-up-there shot was the best I could do:

This one is the best, most realistic shot of the morning. That's Warren in the orange, Henry in the stripes and Kole in the back. They danced and wrestled and punched each other until we had to separate them. Many times. Boys...

The wrestling:

I dropped Svea at a friend's house so I just had one to chase. It's way easier to do The Cheese with just one toddler. Henry had marks on his face from his pals' punches and cried the whole way home - because we left, NOT because of the punches.
He's still asking to go back.

pump it UP
Starting in February, Henry and Svea's friends start having birthdays. Then for about 5 months, everyone is celebrating with sugar and balloons, and now, inflatables.
Brian and I were always scared of these places (due to hysterical kids running maniacally in circles, headaches from all of the static electricity, it's too early in the morning to be jumping around, etc.) but we actually had FUN. It was snowing like crazy, but we had the Cream Puff so we made it safely.
At Pump It Up, here is Svea and me going down one of the 20-foot-high slides:

And then she only wanted to ride in the car. Daddy's girl:

And here is Svea with Daddy going down the big slide:

Henry running about the moon walk thingie:

Until he discovered air hockey and played that with Kole forever:

Notice there aren't many pictures of Henry going down the slide? He was scared to death of them and since we are good parents, we dragged him up the ladders and MADE him have fun until he was laughing with all of the other kids.
He'll thank us later.

Tennis Tourney
Mimi and Papa came this weekend!
And when Papa arrives, Henry immediately starts talking about tennis. And Svea, "Nennis."
It's so cold that "Tennis Ports" were out of the question, so we moved some furniture and had a tournament between the living room and dining room:

What is not captured in the photo:
That mirror you see? We had to take that down after it got hit with a few balls.
After Henry hit the ball? He would run the bases and fall down.
And his sister? She did that falling-down-bit too.
Papa? That's him counting 1-2-3 before throwing it to Henry. Svea started waving her finger in time with "one...two...three" and then throwing something. She's a genius, I tell ya.
Great visit with them. I think we all cried when they left. I don't know when our next scheduled visitors are...

Fun Coloring with Aunt Beth
To fill 10minutes one afternoon, Aunt Beth and I taped some paper to the floor so we could draw roads and "race" cars.
However, it ended up being a bossy art session for Henry telling Aunt Beth to DRAW SOME GRAPES and DRAW MY PEE PEE SOCKS and NOW MY POO POO SOCKS and on and on.
I almost had to leave the room.
Svea worked on perfecting her marker-top-removal skills.

Go Colts!
Svea decided to get ready for the Super Bowl a little early, wearing the Alabama football helmet:

Then we had a Super Bowl "party" with Aunt Beth, but all Svea and Henry cared about was choosing one Frito and dipping it in the French Onion Dip repeatedly until it was too soggy to hold a pound of dip.

Go Colts!

Aunt Beth and Brian gorged on nasty hot wings until they felt sick, the Colts won, the kids went to bed and we played Oh Snap with our Seinfeld cards. Brad joined us for that via speaker cell phone, then helped us look up words on Urban Dictionary.
Hmm. We are SO fun.

Missing Uncle Johnnie
We eased into the day this morning by listening to a little Legend from Bob Marley and I explained to Henry that this was Uncle Johnnie's favorite.
He was quiet a minute, then he decided, "It's MY favorite, toooooooooooo."
So he loves Bob Marley, along with Mary Poppins, the Little Mermaid and Prince Ali Ababwa.
I'm glad everyone gets along so well in his world.
He also has decided that he loves to go fishing. Here is his pole:

And this is his fishing hole:

He likes to drop toys down the center of the roll, fish for them awhile, then have me tip the roll back so he can retrieve the car or truck. I mean, the fish.
He told Brian and me the other day that Uncle Johnnie would take him fishing as soon as he got home from WORK.
oKAY mr. inFLECtion.

He's Home
Svea:
I'm so glad Daddy is home I'm not letting him do anything but hold me.

Henry:
I'm so glad Daddy is home, too, but he gave me this new car and boat in my hand and I'm getting to watch Mary Poppins so I don't care where Daddy sits. As long as it's in the room with me.
My face is also chapped from the wind and the shine on my chin is my special medicine, Burt's Bees Face Cream.
Now I really can't stop licking my chin.

The Days
We've had some funny days around here lately...some that I laugh at now, and others that I hope make me laugh in a few years.
I'm really holding out for that.
The past week, Henry has been quoting random phrases from movies at random times. He told me the other morning that he was "going to have MERCY on himself!"
Thank goodness for that, Henry. I'm not sure what movie that's from. I think "The Little Mermaid".
He also thinks that all zebras say, "Zzzzzziplock fresh!" since Marty on "Madagascar" says that one time - and only one time - in a not-so-memorable moment in the movie.
Svea likes movies too, but is much more interested in pointing and talking. She'll point to the TV and say, "Doovie?" about a million times. Her newest fave (just recently replacing her Thank You!) is "Help you?" whenever she wants to fit a weird top on a bottle that won't fit, or when she wants to get in the bath tub instead of her crib at nap time, or open the pantry so she can stick her hand all the way through the dog food bag.
She also has discovered how to ask for a cookie, which she calls a "tookie," and since I am in third grade, I giggle every time at how she almost said "dookey" (if that's how you spell it). Since Papa went around the yard pointing out the dog poop to Henry and yelling, "Dookey!" for all the neighbors to hear and cracking Henry up, I'm not the only one laughing.
Have I mentioned that Brian has been out of town for 5 days? He needs to return soon or I'm going to start laughing about boogers too.
Henry found this pencil on my desk yesterday and wanted me to put it behind his ear just like Daddy does when he's working in the workshop. I think he's really missing him.

I bought some flowers at Sam's trying to perk myself up (both kids had major crying fits through the shopping experience and when all items were placed in the cart, I couldn't find my debit card and, FYI, Sam's only takes Discover and Mastercard and I don't have those cards. Who doesn't take Visa? WHO?).

We not only have fresh flowers, but we have a fresh new modem. It is AMAZING what you can fill your time with when your Internet is down for two days. I almost hugged the cable guy when he came on a SUNDAY and checked all our wires and connections IN THE SNOW then replaced our modem right then so I wouldn't have to go out and buy one juggling naps and weather and two toddlers. But I didn't hug him.
Brian will be home tonight, the stars will align and all will be well.
Thank goodness for that, too.
